The Designer, Elise Truong
Growing up in my mothers custom dress shop in Edmonton Canada, my entire childhood life was surrounded by dressmaking. Later on I found interest with alternative fashions and vintage fetish lingerie. The obsession of corset making started after learning about the modern resurgence of crafted corsetry and becaming an avid collector. In 2006, I obtained a fashion design certificate at M.C College and taught myself how to properly fit and sew corsets through vintage corset research and reference books. Some other interests include travel, burlesque, costume events, website/graphic design, my bio drag alter-ego (Lolly Knockoff), and my rabbit (Tyrion Bunnister!). I am currently the President of the non-profit Edmonton Burlesque Festival, produce the Laced Up Cabaret and am constantly taking on new projects to help the growth of the local alternative fashion and burlesque community.
After months of drafting corset patterns and working closely with women of all sizes on the fit, I launched Sweet Carousel Corsetry and moved into a private sewing studio in 2007. All the hard work has turned into what you see today. I am a one-woman production creating all the samples, patterning, website coding, event coordinating and customer service. Now Sweet Carousel has grown to add a sewing assistant and interns. We look forward to more growth and continue to satisfy our clientele through our service and passion for quality work. Milestones include feature articles in dozens of magazines and newspapers (such as Bizarre Magazine, Retro Lovely, Fabric Trends, Georgie Magazine, Edmonton Journal), wardrobe for Edmonton Fringe productions and independent movies (such as Adore Canada, Hollywoodland, Unlucky Charms, The Little Deputy), working with known style icons (such as Lady Gaga, Amanda Lepore, Masuimi Max), and being named The Lingerie Addict Awards "Best Corset Brand 2012", Vue Weekly's Best Of Edmonton "Best Local Designer" 2014 & 2015 and 21st Century Burlesque Top 50 List "#13 Non-Performer" 2016.
The Sweet Carousel studio is located along the easy-accessible Edmonton downtown 104th street Promenade. This historical warehouse district is filled with gorgeous residences, shopping, dining, and is home to the downtown city farmers market that runs Spring to Fall. Our modest private studio is located in the 100+ year old West Saddlery building where other artists and designers co-exist. The studio is in a private setting open to clients through appointments. Our shop front is our website.
