The Designer, Elise Truong
Growing up in my mothers custom tailor shop in Edmonton Canada, my entire childhood life was surrounded by dressmaking. Later on I found interest with alternative fashions and vintage fetish lingerie. The obsession of corsets started after learning about the modern resurgence of crafted corsetry and I became an avid collector. In 2006, I obtained a fashion design certificate at M.C College and taught myself how to properly fit and sew corsets through vintage corset research and reference books. Over the years I met some incredible clients and I found myself enamored with the burlesque and performance art communities which led me to expand to into costume design.
Some other interests include travel, costume events, website design, collecting art, bioqueen drag, and hanging out with my rabbit (Tyrion Bunnister!). I am currently the President of the non-profit Edmonton Burlesque Festival, produce the Laced Up Cabaret and am constantly taking on new projects to help the growth of the alternative and burlesque communities.
The CompanyOur goal is to keep a little old world garment construction alive and emphasis slow fashion. I launched Sweet Carousel Corsetry in 2007 and moved into a private sewing studio in downtown Edmonton. We see the beauty in all body types and love to create something to exaggerate your fierce self. With the common interest of corsetry has our company exposed to all sorts of lifestyles that we love. Our clients come from all walks of life and can be brides, musicians, dominatrixes, burlesque performers, trans people, housewives, or drag queens. We are now in our 10th year and the studio is full of happy reminders and pattern archives of hundreds of fun projects we are so grateful to be part of. My assistant Andrea and I are looking forward to more growth and continual satisfaction to our clientele through our service and passion for quality work.
Milestones include feature articles in dozens of magazines and newspapers (such as Bizarre Magazine, Retro Lovely, Fabric Trends, Georgie Magazine, Edmonton Journal), wardrobe for live productions and independent movies (such as Adore Canada, Hollywoodland, Unlucky Charms, The Little Deputy, Man Up: Cirque Electrique, Theatre Bizarre) and working with known style icons (such as Lady Gaga, Amanda Lepore, Masuimi Max, several award winning burlesque performers).
